Tranquility House, Dublin
Tranquility House was a long-held vision of Julian Benson, inspired by his own lived experience and his deep understanding of the needs of individuals and families living with Cystic Fibrosis. In 2022, that vision became a reality with the official establishment of the Tranquility House charity.
A beautifully detailed Georgian property at 58 Grosvenor Road was carefully selected as the ideal setting. Over 100 years old and spanning four floors, the house offered both character and scale – providing the foundations for a welcoming “home from home” for patients and their families while attending treatment at St. James’s Hospital.
The brief centred on creating a calm, restorative environment. An environment that offered comfort, privacy and tranquility during what can be an incredibly challenging time. Julian’s vision was deeply personal and instinctive, shaped by empathy. He spoke about the emotional and physical demands faced by patients and families, and the importance of returning each day to a space that felt peaceful, supportive and safe.
The transformation of Tranquility House was documented by Room to Improve with Dermot Bannon, capturing both the restoration of the building and the powerful human stories behind the project. When the programme aired in January 2025, it brought national attention to the charity, the volunteers involved, and the community of Cystic Fibrosis warriors who inspired its creation.
Tranquility House stands today as a testament to compassion-led design – a space created with purpose, empathy and care, offering comfort and dignity to those who need it most.
In loving memory of Julian Benson (1968–2025). His vision, generosity and legacy live on through Tranquility House.
URBAN PANTRY, Cork
Urban Pantry at The Fifth Quarter in Cork was conceived as a carefully considered marketplace designed to support small, independent local businesses, giving them a shared presence in the heart of Cork city. From the outset, this was a passion project for the client, driven by a clear vision to create something the city was missing.
Our brief was to design a space that felt pure, pared-back and timeless, allowing the focus to remain on the producers and their products. We worked with a restrained palette of simple, durable and user-friendly materials, carefully selected to ensure longevity while complementing the handcrafted nature of the offerings.
Urban Pantry brings together local makers, bakers, roasters and creators under one roof. Each product tells a Cork story, representing a family business or a passionate craftsperson.
Visitors can browse the shelves, discover something new, sit and relax within the space, or take away; an experience rooted in discovery and community. We are incredibly proud of the finished result and the positive response it has received.
The brief was to create a home that felt bright, welcoming and spacious, while demonstrating how each area could be used to its fullest potential. The developer’s vision focused on maximising every inch of the property and appealing to a broad audience of prospective buyers.
The interior scheme was designed to feel open and light-filled, using a soft, neutral palette that enhances the architecture and allows natural light to take centre stage. Clean lines and understated detailing create a calm backdrop, encouraging visitors to imagine their own lifestyle unfolding within the space.
The result is a contemporary show home that balances style with practicality. Inviting, elegant and designed to inspire.
